Unlicensed Money Changers Sentenced to Prison

Two men have been found guilty of operating as unlicensed money changers and sentenced to three years in prison and a fine of five million Syrian pounds reports Damas Post.

The Fourth Criminal Court in Damascus sentenced Amar D., born in Aleppo in the Sheikh Abou Bakr registry and currently residing in Damascus’s al-Duweilah, and Ahmed S., who was born in Damascus’s Amara and is living in the Damar project, to three years imprisonment and a fine of five million Syrian pounds after the court found them guilty of practicing money-changing without a license.

These rulings, which we have kept an image of, were issued pursuant to Article 1/U/18/2013 of the Penal Code.

It appears that these two rulings were issued in absentia, as the text states that both are still fugitive, and that their assets and property will be frozen and they will forfeit civil rights pursuant to Article 329 of the Code of Criminal Procedure.
