Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister, Walid al-Muallem received a call on Sunday from U.N. Secretary General Ban Ki-moonto discuss the latest developments in Qusayr.
Muallem said the role of the Syrian Arab Army is to assist citizens in ridding Qusayr and its countryside of armed terrorist groups and restore security and stability in the area.
Muallem also said he was surprised to hear international "voices rising" over the situation in Qusayr, given no concerns had been raised when terrorists groups seized the city and its countryside, committing what he called the "ugliest crimes against citizens for over 18 months."
The minister said Syrian authorities will allow the Red Cross, in cooperation with the Syrian Arab Red Crescent, to enter the area immediately after military operations had finished.
