Veteran leader of the Syrian Muslim Brotherhood, Zuhair Salem, has resigned from the leadership body and as a spokesman of the movement.
"I will remain a soldier in the movement, nothing more, alongside my work at the Arab Center for Middle East Research and Studies," Salem said.
Salem is one of the more adaptable of the Muslim Brotherhood figures, according to a Zaman al-Wasl source. He had previously rejected several positions offered to him. His rivals described him as consensus personality within the Brotherhood and on the general political level.
