Rouhani Says Iran Will Not be Bystander in Syria

Iranian President Hassan Rouhani said on Monday that Iran is exerting all efforts to prevent aggression against Syria, adding that Iran and the region will not remain as indifferent bystanders regarding the crisis.

In a speech on Monday, Rouhani said that Iran has entered the arena "in full force" to prevent a war in the region, adding that Syria is important to Iran and that the people will triumph over conspiracies.

He said that the crisis in Syria could have important repercussions in the region and the entire world, noting that Syria is currently in a "delicate" position.

"The voice of the people must be the prevailing voice in Syria, Iraq and all countries, even in Palestine," Rouhani said.

He said that the West is mistaken if they believe that Iran seeks to impose military dominance over the region, and that Iran's weight in the region is due to the power of its discourse.
