Reports of Secret Negotiations Between Regime, Opposition in Oman

Senior Gulf diplomatic sources have revealed that secret negotiations were held between regime and opposition representatives in Oman, under American patronage.

The negotiations, the sources said, were aimed at reaching some an understanding about the transitional phase, the basic subject to be discussed at Geneva II.

The sources said that a delegation from the Syrian Foreign Ministry arrived in Muscat airport simultaneously with the arrival of a delegation of independent figures from the Syrian opposition. The delegates were reportedly residing in a hotel near the capital, far from media attention.

Oman has previously hosted secret American-Iranian negotiations which paved the way for the landmark agreement between Iran and P5+1 group.

Oman took a neutral position towards the Syrian conflict and withdrew from the meeting of the Friends of Syria after the militarization of the conflict.
