Activities as part of the "Syrian women…Ladies of Peace" conference kicked off on Saturday at Sheraton Hotel in Damascus under the title of "The Role of Syrian Women in Ending War and Bringing Peace".
The participants discussed women's protection laws during the crisis and the proposal of mechanisms for women's empowerment in society.
Minister of Social Affairs Kinda al-Shammat underscored the government’s interest in safeguarding the rights of Syrian women, building their capacitieis and bolstering their social roles.
The minister said the conference is aimed at establishing executive mechanisms for implementing women-oriented protection and equality programs and activating the women’s role in ending the war, in addition to their participation in political life and national reconciliation.
She stressed that Syrian legislation embodies the infrastructure for ensuring women’s rights under the current crisis.
