Syrian authorities have released the prominent Syrian filmmaker, Mohammad Malas, hours after he was arrested.
Malas was arrested at the Syrian-Lebanese border on his way to Geneva to present one of his films, according to a friend.
The friend, who declined to be identified, said that Malas "called me to tell me that Syrian intelligence had arrested him on the Syrian-Lebanese border," according to reports from Agence France Presse.
Born in 1945, Malas is a pioneering Syrian filmmaker. His films, including several documentaries, have won him acclaim at Arab and International awards.
