Lavrov voices concern over reports of new chemical attacks in Syria

Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said that Moscow is deeply concerned over the reports suggesting that chemical attacks are taking place again in Syria, holding the parties sponsoring the extremist opposition responsible.

Lavrov said that any reports or facts about the use of chemical weapons and components must be investigated immediately, stressing that the extremist opposition hasn't given up attempts to hinder the process of dismantling chemical weapons in Syria.

He asserted that Security Council resolution no. 2118 stipulates keeping chemical weapons and components away from "non-governmental" sides, specifically terrorists and extremists.

Lavrov added that the countries neighboring Syria must not allow terrorists to use their territories to achieve unethical goals like the use of chemical weapons, noting that Russia will ensure commitment to Security Council resolutions related to this issue.
