Armed Group Abducts Journalist Khalid al-Khalaf

An anonymous armed group on Sunday abducted the journalist and civil activist Khalid al-Khalaf from in front of his house in Tarniyah village in the governorate of Idleb.

 

A source close to the family confirmed the news to Siraj Press website, where Khalaf works.

 

"Khalid disappeared in mysterious circumstances last night from in front of his house in the village," the source said.

 

Khalaf abandoned his studies as a second year Masters degree student in the Department of Media in Damascus University to participate in the revolutionary movement. He defected from the regime in 2012, and was previousy the director of the media office of the Education Directorate in Idleb.

 

Two of Khalaf's brothers were killed while fighting in the ranks of the Free Syrian Army.

 

In addition to his work as a journalist, Khalaf is active in the civil society activities dedicated to advertising the principles of the supremacy of law and transitional justice.

 

Khalaf is known for his moderate positions and he has no enemies either in the Islamic factions or in the Free Syrian Army.
