Mikdad: Syria, Iran Relations ‘Strategic, Strong, Solid’

Syrian deputy FM meets with Iranian counterpart to discuss continued coordination and the outcomes of Friday’s talks in Vienna

Deputy Foreign Minister Faisal Mikdad met with with Iranian Assistant Foreign Minister for Arab and African Affairs Hussein Amir Abdullahian on Tuesday to discuss continuing coordination between Syria and Iran on counterterrorism and other issues of mutual interest.

Talks touched upon the latest developments in Syria and current efforts in fighting terrorism, in addition to the latest developments in light of the Vienna conference on Syria.

Speaking to journalists after the meeting, Mikdad said Syrian-Iranian relations are strategic, strong and solid, adding that they require consultations and further coordination and cooperation, particularly in bilateral matters.

Mikdad also denied the prospect of a Western-backed “transitional phase” in Syria, adding that official state establishments will continue to operate.
