‘Butcher of Banias’ Killed By Ahrar al-Sham

Ahrar al-Sham Islamic Movement, a powerful Syrian rebel group, announced it had killed a pro-Assad militia commander responsible for several massacres against Syrian civilians.

A spokesman for the movement announced Tuesday that it had killed Mihrac Ural, a Turkish national who heads the pro-Assad "Iskenderun Liberation Front" militia in the Lattakia countryside.

The Liberation Front was responsible for a massacre in the village of al-Baydah near the city of Banias in 2011, where some 50 civilians were killed.

Ural is also responsible for another massacre that took place in Banias in May 2013, where dozens of people were killed or burned alive.

Ural appeared in a video following the massacre in Banias urging his militias to cleanse the city and kill all "traitors."

Ankara accuses Ural of orchestrating a bombing in the Turkish city of Reyhanli in which 51 Syrian and Turkish nationals were killed in 2013.
