Aleppo: Hospitals, Bakeries are Regime’s Main Target

Hospitals face severe shortages and death toll rises as Assad escalates Aleppo offensive

Russian and regime warplanes continued their strikes against vital infrastructure like hospitals and bakeries in the eastern neighborhoods of Aleppo in which hundreds have been killed over the last week.

According to Zaman al-Wasl’s correspondent, the air strikes targeted Al-Halak, Bostan al-Basha, Baeedin, Al-Sakhour and Al-Maadi, adding that warplanes have hit the neighborhood with cluster and phosphorus bombs, resulting in the deaths of many civilians with huge destruction in property.

The correspondent confirmed that the warplanes had not left the sky of Aleppo since the early morning of Wednesday, adding that a bakery was targeted in Al-Maadi when civilians were gathering to get bread, killing six and injuring dozens.

Early morning, medical sources confirmed that warplanes targeted two of the eight functioning hospitals in besieged Aleppo city resulting in heavy destruction. Some facilities were rendered partially out of service as oxygen and electricity generators were damaged.

For the past five days, Syrian and Russian warplanes have been bombing eastern Aleppo with an unprecedented ferocity.

More than 350 people have been killed in the bombing campaign since Friday, half of whom were reported to be women and children.

Syrian regime forces have begun a ground attack on besieged rebel-held east Aleppo, as part of their plan to retake the whole of the city.
