Rebels Halt Participation in Astana Peace Talks Until Regime Ends Truce Violations

Syrian armed rebel groups have announced that they will not participate in the peace negotiations which Russia is preparing in Kazakhstan’s capital Astana unless regime forces and their Iranian backers do not stop violating the ceasefire.

This came in a statement published by the groups yesterday evening, which was viewed by Alsouria Net. Rebels said: “The regime and its allies causing any changes in the control on the ground is a breach of the essential items of the truce and the agreement will be considered void unless conditions return to the way they were before the signing of the deal,” which Russia and Turkey mediated and went into effect on Friday.

The statement, which was signed by 12 military factions working under the Free Syrian Army banner added that “the regime and its allies have continued to open fire and have carried out many large breaches.”
