Idleb: 7 Civil Defense Workers Killed in Attack on Sarmin Base

Syrians mourned on Sunday the death of seven Civil Defense members who died in an attack carried out by unknown parties in eastern Idleb.

In a statement, the organization said that unknown assailants had attacked their base in Sarmin and killed those inside, adding that the perpetrators then looted the premises.

Among those killed was Mohamad Deeb, also known as “Abou Kifah,” who filled the world’s eyes with tears in a moving scene when he rescued a small child from under the rubble of a home last September. The video went viral on social media.

The emergency worker was born in Sarmin in 1992, and joined the Civil Defense “White Helmets” in 2013. His last post on Facebook read: “Learn your lessons well, so that life does not have to teach them to you again.”

His page was filled today with condolences, as activists expressed their sadness and anger at the culprits of this heinous crime.
