Syrian Opposition Presents Vision for Political Solution in NY

The opposition High Negotiations Committee and the Syrian National Coalition are presenting the framework for implementation of the political solution at the United Nations headquarters in New York, during a conference organized by Saudi Arabia with the attendance of nations friendly to the Syrian people on the sidelines of the 71st session of the UN General Assembly.

The head of the National Coalition Anas al-Abdah, who is in New York to participate in the conference, said that the Syrian opposition was working with the international community to find a solution in Syria to end the suffering of the Syrian people and meet their ambitions to transition to a nation of justice and dignity, while the regime was blocking all international efforts with the aim of clinging to power.

Abdah and the general coordinator of the High Negotiations Committee Riyad Hijab met today with the foreign affairs official for the European Union Federica Mogherini, who confirmed the union’s support for the vision presented by the Negotiations Committee in London, and expressed her concern about the “collapse of the humanitarian situation in Syria.”

Hijab stressed “the need for the international community to stop the process of displacement and demographic change which the regime and its allies are carrying out in Syria,” adding that, “there is no place for Bashar al-Assad from the beginning of the transitional period and the Negotiations Committee has not yet seen any details of the Russian-American agreement.”
