Syrian Coalition: War Against ISIS Will Fail in Absence of Peace Plan

The Syrian National Coalition's representative at the United Nations, Najib Ghadban, said the international coalition’s war against the Islamic State (ISIS) will fail if major powers do not develop a peace plan to put an end to the ongoing conflict inside Syria.

"A comprehensive strategy should be formed to address the causes, Assad and his brutality. The war against the Islamic State will not succeed as long as the Security Council does not adopt comprehensive initiatives", Ghadban said.

In a recent statement, the Coalition declared that it sent a telegram to "the Security Council, explaining the violations and massacres committed by Assad's regime in the city of Douma, eastern Ghouta, with calls to develop a new strong and executable resolution to deter such atrocities in the future".

Al-Hayat has learned that the Coalition began its meeting in Istanbul to discuss the document of principles to a political solution to the crisis.

According to al-Arabiya Net which published some of the points included in the document; the goal of negotiations with the regime is to form a transitional governing body with "full executive powers, including the powers of the president, where this body is the only legitimate representative of the state".
