Minister for Local Administration Hussein Makhlouf met with Switzerland’s top humanitarian aid delegate, Manuel Bessler, and an accompanying delegation on Wednesday to discuss boosting humanitarian and relief cooperation between the two countries.
The minister said the Syrian government is interested in enhancing cooperation with Switzerland to contribute to the provision of humanitarian and relief aid, particularly in the health sector, expressing gratitude to the Swiss delegation for recently supplying 12 ambulances as well as funding.
Makhlouf said that since the beginning of 2016, the Syrian government approved UN aid deliveries to 73 hard-to-access areas, adding that the number of beneficiaries had exceeded 1.4 million people.
For his part, Bessler expressed the Switzerland’s readiness to cooperate with the Syrian government as well as various UN and international and local associations operating in Syria.
