Saudi Foreign Minister Discusses Developments in Syrian Issue with Pedersen

Saudi Foreign Minister Faisal bin Farhan held discussions with UN Special Envoy to Syria Geir Pedersen regarding the latest developments in the Syrian situation. He emphasized his country’s readiness to make every possible effort to resolve the Syrian crisis.

Bin Farhan and Pedersen convened at the Kingdom’s permanent delegation to the United Nations in New York, on the sidelines of the 78th session of the United Nations General Assembly. During their meeting, they delved into the current advancements in the political resolution of the Syrian crisis. The discussions also encompassed the collaborative efforts of Saudi Arabia and the United Nations in this context, including the outcomes of the Arab summit in Jeddah, as reported by the Saudi agency SPA.

In the meeting, the Saudi foreign minister underlined his nation’s dedication to “exert all efforts towards achieving a political solution to the Syrian crisis that upholds Syria’s unity, security, stability, and Arab identity while fostering prosperity and development for its fraternal people.”

In August, the Saudi Foreign Ministry disclosed on its X platform account that Bin Farhan had met with his Syrian counterpart, Faisal al-Mekdad, engaging in a productive exchange of views on matters of mutual interest.

Last May, Saudi Arabia announced the resumption of diplomatic activities at its mission in Syria. The decision was made in accordance with the resolutions passed during the ministerial meeting of the Council of Foreign Ministers of Arab States, held in Cairo on March 7. This decision marked Syria’s reintegration into the meetings of the Council of the League of Arab States and all its affiliated organizations and bodies. It was aligned with the principles outlined in the charters of the United Nations, the League of Arab States, and international conventions and norms.
