On Saturday, the Deputy Foreign Minister of Russia, Sergey Vershinin, stressed the necessity of providing humanitarian aid to Syria in a way that is not politicized, and that commits to the sovereignty of Syrian territory.
In a statement, the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs said that during a phone call with the UN Special Envoy for Syria, Geir Pedersen, Vershinin discussed the situation there in detail calling for the strengthening of the political solution process, “led and implemented by the Syrians themselves.”

“Russia noted the importance of conducting an objective assessment of the situation in various regions of Syria and the need to continue the fight against terrorists and provide humanitarian aid in a way that is not politicized” the statement added.
In another phone call, Vershinin discussed with the Under-Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs and Emergency Relief Coordinator, Martin Griffiths, the cooperation between the two sides in humanitarian issues. Special attention was paid to the current situation in Syria and Ethiopia.
