Rebels Take Control of Golan Border

Al-Qaeda's Syria wing, the Nusra Front and other Islamist fighters have taken full control of a border line dividing Syria from the Israeli-occupied Golan Heights after capturing many villages in the area, activists reported.

The fighters, who have vowed to "liberate" the area, captured al-Rawadhi and al-Hamidiya villages on Friday, in step to take over the whole province of Quineitra, a week after taking control of a strategic border crossing from Bashar al-Assad forces, according to Reuters.

Israel captured the western part of the strategic plateau from Syria in a 1967 war and occupied it, a move that is not internationally recognized.

Activists said the city, which liberated from Israel in 1973, will be the second territory after Raqqa out of Syrian regime’s control.
