Rebels Seek to Unify Against IS in Aleppo

Syrian rebels in Aleppo have raised the alarm in the northern countryside of Aleppo, as the radical Islamic State (IS) group continues to sow terror in Iraq and Syria, pressing rapid advances in both countries.

A rebel field commander told Zaman al-Wasl that sincere efforts had been made by the Islamic Front, key rebel group north Syria, to reconstruct fighting groups and to overcome internal rifts, threatening to holding perpetrators to account.

Representatives of key rebel groups in Aleppo, including the moderate Free Syrian Army, met recently to set a new agenda to halt rapid IS advances, and dividing the province into sectors.

In August, IS took control of 11 towns in northern countryside of Aleppo, reaching the borders with Turkey.

Separately, sources say rebels are trying to improve living conditions in areas they control amid fears of IS’s soft power that depends on aid and charity.
