Putin Congratulates Syria on Its Independence Day

Russian President Vladimir Putin on Tuesday congratulated Syria on the occasion of its Independence Day, highlighting Russia's determination to continue protecting the sovereignty and territorial integrity of its ally.

In a cable to President Bashar al-Assad, Putin stressed Russia’s continued support for a peaceful settlement to the crisis in Syria through comprehensive dialogue which aims at stopping the bloodshed and uniting all the Syrians in combating the international forces of terrorism and extremism.

Putin reiterated Russia’s resolve to continue its support to achieve these goals and to protect the sovereignty of the Syrian Arab Republic and its territorial integrity.

He voiced confidence that development of ties between Russia and Syria is in the interests of the two countries’ citizens, and will help to ensure regional and international security.

Putin wished the Syrian people a safe and prosperous life and Assad health and success.
