Russian President Vladimir Putin congratulated President Bashar al-Assad on Tuesday on the Syrian army’s breaking of the siege on Deir-ez-Zor city, which had been imposed by the Islamic State (ISIS) for three years.
In a cable, the Russian president praised the strategic success achieved by the Syrian army which breached the siege imposed by ISIS on the eastern city, as the army managed to advance swiftly and join the besieged Regiment 137.
Putin affirmed that this achievement is an important step toward liberating Syria from all terrorist groups, voicing confidence in the joint efforts that will lead to victory and restore peace and security to Syria.
