Prime Minister Wael al-Halki said he holds countries backing terrorism responsible for the barbaric atrocities committed by ISIS against the residents of Palmyra city.
Local reports from the city claim ISIS forces have slaughtered and mutilated at least 400 civilians, including children, women and the elderly, preventing thousands of others from leaving the city.
Halki cited Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Turkey and a number of Western states as being central in providing financial and military support to terrorist organizations, including ISIS and the Nusra Front.
The prime minister called on the international community and humanitarian organizations to pressure governments to stop backing terrorism.
