Dozens of displaced families arrived in the Turkish border city of Gaziantep after fleeing the ISIS-held city of Palmyra and other areas under daily barrel bomb attack from the Syrian regime, sources told Zaman al-Wasl on Monday.
Civilians who managed to escape Palmyra reported that the Syrian regime had handed the city to ISIS last month without resistance.
Other sources mentioned regime forces had left behind a huge cache of arms. The move is surprising, as in other areas, regime forces usually transfer or destroy all armaments prior to retreating from battle.
Activists claim ISIS has completely seized the city of Palmyra in Homs countryside, as the Assad regime maintains it withdrew from the city only after securing safe passage for most civilians.
