Mekdad: U.S., Britain Supplying Terrorists in Syria With Toxic Weapons

Deputy Foreign Minister Faisal Mekdad called out the United States, Britain and their allies in the region for violating the Chemical Weapons Prohibition Act by supporting terrorist organizations on Syrian soil and supplying them with toxic materials as well as weapons of all sorts.

During a meeting in the Foreign Ministry building held with a number of media outlets, Mekdad called on the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons to carry out an investigation into the issue of the United States, United Kingdom and Turkey supplying terrorist groups on Syrian territory with internationally banned poison materials.

"Based on the fabrications made by the terrorists that the Syrian army carried out a chemical attack on the city of Khan Sheikhoun, the United States carried out a direct missile strike before investigations into this issue," Mekdad said.

"The Syrian government has carried out investigations, using the results of foreign non-governmental organizations, which resulted in uncovering the truth of what happened in Khan Sheikhoun from the beginning to the end," he added.

Mekdad presented a number of pieces of evidence which proved the falsity of the accusations and fabrications published by international media around the farce known as the "chemical attack by Syrian Arab Army forces on the peaceful residents of Khan Sheikhoun."

He said that the echo of the chemical attack in Khan Sheikhoun had one aim only, which was blaming the Syrian government for violating international humanitarian laws and carrying out war crimes.

Mekdad said that the Syrian government did not possess chemical weapons, adding that its supplies and means of producing them had been destroyed under the observation of the OPCW. He added that Syria had carried out all its pledges related to the destruction of its chemical weapons.
