Khatib Fails to Join Coaltion Board

Sheikh Mouaz al-Khatib, former president of the Syrian National Coalition, had nominated himself for the Political Board of the Coalition, but failed to achieve the required quorum.

On Sunday the Coalition elected its political commission designed to work under the new president. It includes: President Ahmed Jarba and his deputies Mohammad Farouk Tayfour, Suhair Atassi and Salem al-Muslet, Secretary-General Badr Jamous, Louay Safi, Abdulbasset Sida, Mouaffaq Nyrabia, Micheal Kilo, Kamal al-Hadi Nabaa, Anas Abdeh, Fayez Sara, Mona Mustafa, Zakaria Sakkal, Nazir al-Hakim, Akram Assaf, Munther Makhous, and Ahmed Ramadan.

Farah Atassi also has failed to gain election for the political board. The American-Syrian oppositionist repeatedly announced her resignation from the Coalition, but she returned silently and nominated herself for the board, receiving only 15 votes. Khatib won just 29 votes.
