The Syrian government supports all efforts to solve the country’s crisis and considers fighting terrorism its foremost priority, Syria’s Permanent Representative to the UN, Bashar al-Jaafari, stressed on Wednesday.
“We have affirmed to the UN Special Envoy to Syria, Staffan de Mistura, that fighting terrorism is necessary and a priority for Syria”, Jaafari told journalists at the United Nations headquarters, adding, “If dealing with terrorism isn’t as it should be, then other processes and tracks will not be important”.
“Syria wants to achieve peaceful solution and settlement, to put an end to the terrorists flowing into Syria through controlling Syrian Turkish borders, and to pressure Israel to stop supporting terrorists on the Golan front”, Jaafari stated.
Speaking at a UN Security Council meeting earlier on Wednesday, de Mistura called for a revised approach to solving the crisis through inclusive Syrian-Syrian dialogue on a range of issues, including counterterrorism and the establishment of an international communication group.
