Hezbollah Likely Behind Missile Attack in Majdal Shams: Syrian Rights Group

Majdal Shams, Occupied Syrian Golan – A devastating rocket attack on the municipal football stadium in Majdal Shams has left 12 people dead and 36 injured, with the Syrian Network for Human Rights suspecting Hezbollah’s involvement.

The attack, which occurred on Saturday, July 27, targeted the stadium where dozens of children were present, resulting in the loss of 12 young lives, including 8 males and 4 females. The victims were mostly children gathered for local team training.

According to the network’s report, testimonies and photo analysis suggest a rocket strike at a shallow angle, with the damage consistent with a Falaq-1 rocket, a 240mm ground-to-ground rocket used by Hezbollah.

The report indicates that the rocket was likely launched from southern Lebanon, given the village’s geography and the direction of the shelling. The area affected includes a football field, training field, children’s playground, and public park.

The Syrian Network for Human Rights condemns the attack, emphasizing the presence of children in the stadium. The Israeli entity has occupied Majdal Shams since 1967, with most residents belonging to the Druze community.

Investigations are ongoing, but the Syrian Network’s findings suggest a deliberate and targeted attack on a civilian area, raising concerns about the involvement of Hezbollah in the region.
