Goal of Geneva is to Stem the Bloodshed: Mekdad

Deputy Foreign and Expatriates Minister Faisal Mekdad said on Monday the main goal of the Geneva II conference is to stem the bloodshed in Syria.

Mekdad said there can be no talk of a true political process without stopping violence, terrorism and foreign interference.

In statements to reporters in Geneva, Mekdad stressed that it is time to stop terrorist acts and reach an accord among Syrians to end bloodshed, as a priority.

He warned that if terrorism in Syria is not stopped, it will spread to other countries in the region and the rest of the World.

Mekdad said that the first Geneva communiqué must be discussed one item at a time oin order to resolve the crisis in Syria, and that the official Syrian delegation will not hesitate to discuss the "transitional government" when this topic is reached in its logical order.

He added that a law recently issued by Saudi Arabia relating to punishment of terrorists is a "step backwards" as it motivates terrorists to not return to Saudi Arabia, and that these terrorists would rather kill themselves in Syria rather than return.

Mekdad asserted that neither French Foreign Minister Laurent Fabius nor the French government has any right to talk about humanitarian principles, adding that France is a state supporting terrorism and that the U.N. Security Council Chapter VII should be used against it, the U.S. and Britain for their support of terrorism.
