The Syrian government delegation to Geneva met with United Nations mediator Staffan de Mistura on Tuesday at the U.N. headquarters in the Swiss city as part of the sixth round of intra-Syrian talks.
Earlier in a press conference on Monday, de Mistura said that all delegations would be present for the talks and that all parties had agreed on the agenda adopted in the two previous rounds, adding that representatives had agreed to discuss four “baskets” of issues equally.
On May 8, Foreign Minister Walid al-Muallem said in a press conference that the Syrian government has always been present in the Geneva meetings, adding that unfortunately the Geneva track remains at a standstill because there is no patriotic opposition thinking about Syria instead of receiving instructions from its foreign backers.
The fifth round of the intra-Syrian dialogue ended on March 31 after the government delegation presented several papers to the U.N. envoy over the course of eight days, which included plans on fighting terrorism and a political solution. However, “opposition” representatives failed respond to any of the proposals.
