A Syrian Kurdish father who set himself on fire to protest against the forced recruitment of his daughter to the People’s Protection Units (YPG) in Kobani has died in a Turkish hospital.
Local sources said Faisal Mustafa Hajano died on Sunday in a hospital in Urfa due to severe burns after setting fire to his body in protest four days earlier.
The sources confirmed that the YPG also recruited two of Hajano sons a few months ago.
Activists and human rights organizations, including Amnesty International, have accused People’s Protection Units, the military arm of the Kurdish Democratic Union Party, led by Saleh Muslim, of committing abuses against civilians in Kurdish areas.
The alleged abuses include forced displacement, arrest, and forced recruitment.
