Recap: Will Mekdad and Cavusoglu Meet Soon?

Informed sources told Athr Press that Syria’s participation in the event comes at a time when the country has perhaps never needed access to energy more. The sector has witnessed a significant decline over the past several years, while investments in these sectors still remain relatively limited and do not meet hopes. The latter has occurred despite an encouraging legal environment for investors, businessmen and foreign companies to invest in the energy sector.

The sources confirmed to Athr Press that Syria’s participation in this large summit — in which dozens of countries participate — carries important political messages, especially in light of the current circumstances that the country is going through. The sources stressed that Syria will certainly witness positive results locally in terms of signing new bilateral agreements, especially since the Syrian delegation will directly meet with many other international actors participating in the Abu Dhabi summit.

The sources indicated that, during the most recent period, Syria focused heavily on the issue of renewable energies. The Ministry of Electricity, with government support, worked to develop an appropriate legislative structure for foreign investors in the energy sector, especially with regard to the field of renewable energy. Renewable energy has become a major trend for all countries due to the increase in demand for energy globally and expectations of a decline in the global stock of fossil energies.

The Syrian delegation will meet with several officials from other countries, as well as businessmen and major companies working in the field of renewable energy. According to the sources, these meetings will certainly result in the signing bilateral agreements that will positively impact energy access within Syria.
