Sources have confirmed the defection of Abdel Tawwab Shahrour, chairman of the Aleppo Medical Council, who was briefed on the regime use of chemical weapons in Khan al-Assal.
Shahrour defected and traveled to Turkey, claims to carry evidence of the involvement of President Bashar Assad in the use of chemical weapons in the attack on Khan al-Assal near Aleppo in March.
Sources told Elaph that Shahrour was expected to meet with members of the Syrian National Coalition on Tuesday for a press conference, but that meetings with some Turkish officials to see the documents and evidence prevented the press briefing.
Khan al-Assal is one of the areas covered by the agreement between the U.N. International Investigation Committee and the Assad regime to investigate chemical weapons use in Syria.
