Malas was arrested at the Syrian-Lebanese border on his way to Geneva to present one of his films, according to a friend.
The friend, who declined to be identified, said that Malas "called me to tell me that Syrian intelligence had arrested him on the Syrian-Lebanese border," according to reports from Agence France Presse.
