Damascus University to Form New Institute

The Cabinet has approved a bill establishing a higher institute for regional planning in Damascus University following a need for specialists to provide expertise on development strategies.

Chairing the session, Prime Minister Wael al-Halki said that the recent rain and snowfall should have a positive impact on irrigation projects and water resources, stressing the need to help citrus farmers who were affected by the unfavorable weather conditions.

He also lauded the efforts of the army and security personnel, as well as workers in the services and economic sectors dealing with the effects of the snowstorm.

Foreign and Expatriates Minister Walid al-Muallem briefed the Cabinet on political developments in the international arena, noting that recent events in France validated Syria’s warning about the ‘rebound-effect’ of supporting terrorism abroad.

Muallem underlined the increasing rate of implementing reconciliations in several regions in Syria, stating that 2015 will be the year of security and stability.
