A Syrian opposition source says the Syrian National Coalition intends to hold its next meeting in the first week of March in Cairo instead of Istanbul.
"Changing the meeting from Istanbul to Cairo doesn’t mean that there is a change in Turkey's position," the source said on Tuesday, "we can never forget Turkey's historical support to the Syrian people during the confrontation with Assad's tyranny."
"Working with the Arab League requires a close cooperation during this period, especially that there are indications of a possibility to occupy Syria's seat in the Arab League", the source added.
"The meeting of the General Commission will be held between 8-9 March and it will be attended by the majority of the members, especially after tens of members have rejoined the Coalition. The meeting will be headed by the president of the Coalition Ahmad Jarba", the source explained.
A source close to the Turkish government said on Tuesday that "the Coalition is welcome in Turkey, and it has the right and choice to specify the location for its meetings, according to the benefit of the Syrian revolution and Syrian people who suffered a lot from tyranny and suppression for decades".
"We know that the meeting of Cairo comes before the Arab Summit which will be held in Kuwait by the end of March," the Turkish source added.
Arab League foreign ministers will hold their 41st meeting at the General Secretary seat between 5-6 March.
