A delegation from the Syrian National Coalition arrived in the Swiss city of Geneva on Wednesday in response to an invitation from UN envoy for Syria Staffan De Mistura. The meeting comes prior to the submission of De Mistura’s report on Syria to the UN Secretary-General on Monday.
The delegation is headed by Coalition President Khaled Khoja, in addition to Vice Presidents Hisham Marwa and Mustafa Osso, former Secretary General of the Coalition Bader Jamous, former Coalition President Hadi Al-Bahra, and members of the Political Commission Ahmed Ramadan and Hassan al-Hashimi.
The meeting will discuss prospects for a political solution in light of the recent developments, mechanisms to apply the Geneva statement, and observations from De Mistura's recent tour of the region.
The Coalition stresses its commitment to a political solution based on the Geneva statement including a transitional governing body with full executive powers.
The Coalition also stresses such a transitional governing body should be qualified to lead the Syrians to eradicate terrorism, which the Assad regime has contributed to in its foundation, spread and support.
