U.N. Secretary General Ban Ki-Moon said that the attack on the Russian Embassy in Damascus is "categorically unacceptable".
"The U.N. chief has been informed of the event, and as we repeatedly announced, attacks which target the diplomatic missions are categorically unacceptable," Russia's Itar Tass quoted U.N. chief spokesman Martin Nesirky as saying.
A source at the Russian Embassy in Damascus announced on Sunday that a mortar shell landed on the chancery, adding that the embassy was functioning as usual.
