At least 40 Islamic State fighters have been killed in an air strike on a convoy in the Syrian province of Hama, Reuters reported on Sunday.
The attack, which took place on Saturday, also destroyed 16 vehicles in the convoy, said the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, which monitors violence in the country through a wide network of sources on the ground.
The observatory added that the convoy had just left Raqqa, the de facto capital of the militant group in Syria, at the time of the attack. No further details on who was responsible for the attack were immediately available, according to Reuters.
In Damascus, near the embattled neighborhood of Jobar, rebels blew up a bus and vehicle filled with pro-Assad fighters, the Syrian Revolution Coordination Union said on Sunday.
The regime army has stepped up its ground attacks alongside the Russian-backed aerial campaign on the Eastern Ghouta district over the last two weeks, although rebels have managed to halt the offensive by Assad’s troops and their allies.
