Syria’s Permanent Representative to the UN, Dr. Bashar al-Jaafari affirmed the need to put an end to colonialism in the world and grant the right of self-determination to all people.
Jaafari, during a meeting of the Special Committee on the Situation with Regards to the Implementation of the Declaration on the Granting of Independence to Colonial Countries and Peoples, said that the Committee was one of the side that contributed to granting the right of self-determination to people who were subjected to colonialism.
“Those people have made use of applying self-determination, and putting an end to colonialism and becoming members of the international committee,” Jaafari added.
He stressed that there are two main differences between the League of Nations and the UN Charter. The first legislated for war and colonialism, while the latter rejected the legislation of war and established a Commission on Decolonization.
Jaafari said that the Committee has responsibility to end colonialism in the world after nearly 75 years of the United Nations.
