On Wednesday, the Deputy Foreign and Expatriates Minister, Faisal Mikdad, received the UNICEF Regional Director for the Middle East and North Africa, Geert Cappelaere.
Discussion during the meeting touched upon the bilateral cooperation between the Syrian government and UNICEF in the fields of care for children, girls, health, education, women and youth.
Cappelaere hailed the role of the Syrian government and the Syrian Arab Red Crescent (SARC) in securing a humanitarian aid convoy to the al-Rukban Camp for internally displaced people.
He used the meeting to highlight the UNICEF activities in Syria in terms of rehabilitating schools damaged during the war, in addition to carrying out vaccination campaigns for children in various areas of the country, in cooperation with the Syrian Health Ministry.
For his part, Mikdad highlighted the Syrian government’s keenness to ensure that all Syrian children have access to education, in reference to the ongoing cooperation with the UNICEF in this regard.
