Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said that resorting to force in Syria will lead to destabilization in the region, adding that there is no alternative to a political solution to the crisis in the country.
Lavrov's remarks came during a phone call with U.N. Envoy to Syria, Lakhdar Brahimi.
Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Gennady Gatilov also confirmed that the use of force against Syria, outside of the U.N. Security Council is a flagrant violation of the international law.
"Some countries are ready to use force even before announcing the results of the objective investigation of the U.N. experts," Gatilov told reporters at The Hague.
He added that it is early to talk about a vote at the U.N. Security Council regarding a draft resolution on Syria, referring to Russia's right to the use of veto.
Chairman of Russian Duma, Sergei Naryshkin, stressed that any military action against Syria will increase tension in the whole region and reflect on the U.N. and its institutions badly.
In an interview with Russian 24 Channel on Tuesday, Naryshkin said that the situation is complicated and very tense, expressing his conviction that such an act will not bring a solution, but would further complicate the situation.
