Russian Presidential spokesman Dmitry Peskov revealed on Tuesday that Russian President Vladimir Putin and his U.S. counterpart Barack Obama discussed the issue of putting the chemical weapons in Syria under international supervision on the sidelines of the G20 Summit, recently held in the Russian city of St. Petersburg.
"The issue was actually discussed," Peskov told the Russian Interfax news agency, without clarifying who was the first to propose the topic.
Earlier, U.S. Deputy National Security Advisor Ben Rhodes said the United States plans to follow-up with Russia on its initiative regarding chemical weapons in Syria.
The U.S. State Department also said Washington would consider the Russian proposal seriously.
