Former President of the Syrian National Council, Burhan Ghalioun described a recent meeting with the Russian foreign minister Sergei Lavrov a as "disappointing".
"We thought that the invitation was a sign of understanding of our position, but they [only] made an effort to draw us into their positions," Ghalioun said.
Ghalioun stressed that the opposition's priority is to form the transitional body in Syria through Geneva negotiations, "while the Russians want to convince us that it is better to avoid the demand for a Security Council resolution on humanitarian aid."
"We asked them to put pressure on the regime to stop the explosive barrels, the siege around cities, to allow the humanitarian aid to the besieged areas, then we will not go to the Security Council. We told them that using the veto on this humanitarian matter will threaten Russia's role in Syria's future," Ghalioun said.
"In the next round of negotiations, we will test Russians' will."
