Moscow will continue to provide the Syrian army with the necessary defense capabilities in its struggle against terrorism, Russian Ambassador to Syria Alexander Kinshchak said.
In an exclusive interview with SANA, the first since his appointment as ambassador, Kinshchak stressed that Russia has employed all its capabilities to prevent military intervention in Syria by regional forces.
Moscow, he said, has no intention of making any direct military action in regards to Syria, as it believes intervention in a state’s internal affairs is counter productive.
Kinshchak told SANA that Russia’s role, as far as the crisis in Syria is concerned, is to provide the ‘legitimate’ Syrian government with the necessities for combating terrorism, while helping to create conditions for a political solution to the crisis.
Commenting on the second round of inter-Syrian talks launched in Moscow Monday, Kinshchak clarified that Russia is working to provide a suitable atmosphere to arrive at an acceptable agreement for all concerned parties.
Russia’s efforts, he added, aim to have the Syrian delegations reach a formula for the aspired national reconciliation.
The Moscow talks will discuss a set of ‘sound and clear’ items, the ambassador noted, namely coordinating efforts among national powers to combat terrorism and launch a political process that includes all political forces inside or outside Syria.
Participating members of the opposition resumed talks earlier today in order to reach an agreement before meeting the Syrian government delegation tomorrow.
The closed-door meetings are held under the supervision of moderator Vitaly Naumkin, Director of the Institute of Oriental Studies of the Russian Academy of Sciences.
Ambassador Kinshchak added that the Moscow talks will also discuss the issue of improving the humanitarian situation in Syria, particularly in isolated areas which have become battle fields, hoping that tangible measures could be reached.
Kinshchak dismissed Washington’s training program for the so-called ‘armed opposition’ as a “failing project that is not helpful for the political solution efforts”.
