Around 240 Syrian children arrived in Sweden, unaccompanied, over the past week with the number expected to rise, according to Anatolia news agency.
The agency said the number of children who arrived alone in Sweden reached 2,980 child in the first quarter of last year, and as figures increased by 60 percent this year, statistics suggest the numbers are expected to rise.
Children face better chances of being granted asylum, compared to adult members of the family, which has encouraged many Syrian families to send their children to Sweden alone.
Sweden received around 81,000 refugees last year, mostly Syrians, with the number of refugees predicted to rise to 100,000 in 2015.
