Israeli fighter jets bombed regime troops and Hezbollah locations in the Qalamoun region on the Syrian-Lebanese border Friday afternoon, al-Souria Net’s correspondent reported.
The raids targeted an important supply route used by Hezbollah militia in the western Qalamoun Mountains on the Syrian-Lebanese border, also striking an ammunition and rocket arsenal recently transported by Hezbollah to the Baalbek region with cooperation from regime forces.
Media activist Khaled Kalamooni said Israel’s air force targeted several Hezbollah locations on the outskirts of Isal al-Ward and at-Tufail area, which resulted in the death of several regime soldiers and militiamen.
Kalamooni added Israeli aircrafts also struck a car carrying Hezbollah commanders in the western Qalamoun Mountains. Israel says its raids targeted weapons on their way to Hezbollah fighters.
Israeli warplanes carried out several raids on the headquarters of Brigade 155 and Brigade 65 in al-Qutaifeh in the countryside of Damascus. News websites confirmed both brigades specialized in strategic weapons and long-range missiles.
The Qalamooun area includes a number of Hezbollah supply routes used to transfer human and logistic supplies to and from Syrian territory.
In parallel, Israeli fighter jets bombed 14 regime locations in the Syrian Golan Heights in response to shelling and rocket fire from regime-held areas. Official Syrian TV channels confirmed the Israeli raids, stating: “Israeli air forces targeted a civilian car in al-Kom, which led to the martyrdom of five unarmed civilians."
The British-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights reported two members of Syria’s security forces were killed and eight others were seriously injured, in addition to the destruction of a weapons cache, when Israeli aircrafts carried out several strikes targeting positions in south-western Damascus and Quneitra.
Israel’s Maarif newspaper reported that the Israeli strike killed five members of the Islamic Jihad Movement.
The Yediot Aharonot newspaper said it was the first time since 1973 that rockets from Syrian territory have targeted th Galilee, with the Israeli army warning on Thursday that the Assad regime will be held accountable for the launch of four rockets into northern Israel.
"The Islamic Jihad Movement, an organization affiliated to Iran, has fired these missiles, and we hold the Syrian government responsible for the incident," the statement said.
