The death toll from deadly air strikes on Douma and nearby suburbs in east Damascus has risen to 70, activists said Sunday.
Scores of civilians, including women and children, were killed on Sunday in air and missile attacks on a school district in Douma city near Damascus, according to medics and activists.
The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said unidentified war planes targeted the town of Douma, 15 km northeast of the capital, while surface-to-surface missiles fired by the Syrian army also struck the surrounding areas, including Eastern Ghouta.
Activists said the Syrian army has pounded the rebel-held city with 12 cluster bombs and 53 missiles in the most brutal aerial bombing on the area in months.
The Syrian regime, backed by Russian jets, has stepped up its devastating aerial campaign on rebel-held areas in Eastern Ghouta suburbs over the past two months.
