A Syrian man committed suicide by throwing himself into a sewage drain in Istanbul, Turkey, local medical authorities reported.
The man, whom Turkish authorities have identified as Amir Khattab, was seen opening the cover of the sewage drain vent and throwing himself inside. Rescue teams worked for two hours to retrieve the body from the grates.
Khattab is survived by his wife and three children.
